Matt Medved is a recent graduate from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, where he majored in journalism, minored in political scienceĀ  and had a concentration in creative writing. Matt has previously worked for the Cape Argus newspaper in Cape Town, South Africa where he broke numerous news stories including gangsterism in primary schools and a plot by Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe’s Central Intelligence Organization to implicate Archbishop Pius Ncube in an illicit affair via a sting interview conducted by one of Mugabe’s relatives. Matt has also covered stories in Swaziland, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe in the form of narrative features and has written extensively on South African street children and prison gangsters.

Matt returned to South Africa and Zimbabwe in March 2008 after being awarded the Eric Lund Reporting and Research Grant to work on a project on South African prison gangs. Matt traveled to Harare in the wake of the controversial Zimbabwean presidential elections and covered the aftermath in a feature freelanced to The Zimbabwean newspaper.

In the United States, Matt has worked for The Tennessean newspaper in Nashville, TN covering local news including coverage of the plight of evacuees from Hurricane Gustav, a probe into the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the 2008 US presidential election. Matt also contributed a sports blog titled “Sports Matters” to the Chicago online publication The Windy Citizen, tackling varied topics in the professional sports world.
